What is swearing?
Dear one, did you know that on six separate occasions in the King James Bible the term "that pisseth against the wall" is used to describe men? For information purposes, the references to "pisseth against the wall" comes from 1 Samuel 25 (2 instances), 1 Kings 14, 16, and 21, and 2 Kings 9. The Hebrew word is "mašTîn", which means "to pass water or urinate." The word "Pisseth" is not swearing dear one. When I was a young man the term "gay" had an entirely different meaning than it does now. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me."
Swearing means to take an oath to tell the truth - In Matthew 5: 33- 37 we read: "Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is G-d's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."
Some words may indeed offend some people - but, they are only words and you are not swearing. Some people may be offended when you tell them they are on their way to Hell to be damned forever - but, if you do not warn them as Jesus and Paul and many others have done - they will be lost.
In John 8:31-47 we read: To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.” “Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from G-d. Abraham did not do such things. You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is G-d himself.” Jesus said to them, “If G-d were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from G-d. I have not come on my own; G-d sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to G-d hears what G-d says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to G-d.”
Shalom!
